Flying Mantis
Bang Creations Flying Mantis: Learn how we designed a leading edge super light weight carbon composite construction foiling trimaran.
The brief
Simon Chrispin wanted a boat that he could keep at home and if the weather looked good, go out sailing.
It had to be super lightweight, portable and forgiving to sail. Most importantly it had to go fast or it would not be fun.
The bang
The foils can be removed so that the sailor can start by sailing on the dagger board and as their skill improves or the conditions improve, progress to foiling.
The result
Flying Mantis is a gorgeous futuristic boat that moves at exceptionally high speeds. This luxury trimaran has had a lot of attention at boat shows across the UK including an endorsement from Sam Whaley of the British Sailing Team.
Flying Mantis won Dinghy of the Year 2018.
