Chesneys Stove:
The future of outdoor stoves

The brief

We were delighted to be asked to consider the design for a new outdoor range of stoves for Chesneys. Paul Chesney had a clear idea in mind of a long rectangular form that could not only throw out a significant amount of heat but be a visually stunning focal point for outdoor living. The product was to be made in the UK with Chesneys chosen manufacturing partner and we were to work with them to ensure the heat output would not be compromised in our design.

The bang

The stove is very long, 1.1m, and building and lighting a fire inside it is challenging. Chesneys’ manufacture are experts are creating efficient stoves that self-clean. Their solution was to have two sliding draws that you accessed from each end. The design challenge was how to accommodate all the handles and air flow levers required for function without the product looking like a piece of steam punk art. We recessed the handles inboard on the side walls and fine-tuned the proportions of every element and created space under the stove to accommodate the dampeners.

The result

“We approached the team at Bang Creations because we wanted a design team that could not only turn our idea into an elegant solution, but also a team that understands manufacture. They worked seamlessly and flexibly with us to ensure that the design intent was carried through to the final product and no compromises were made on function. We are delighted with the final solution and working with Stefan and his team was a rewarding and successful experience which has resulted in a commercially marketable product for us. We are looking forward to working with them in the future on the design and development of more innovative product solutions for outdoor living.”
