Bisley – the international workplace storage brand approached us to help expand their product range. We were tasked with developing a range of luggage to meet the needs of travelling professionals. This constituted a family of 3 distinct products for different scenarios. The first is a wheeled trolley case to fit in the minimum size requirement for carry-on luggage, as well as their office storage systems. The second product is a day-sack which would look a lot smarter and professional than a typical backpack whilst offering ample storage. The third product is a messenger style laptop case, to offer protection and storage for essential equipment.
We researched the most frequently carried items for travelling professionals and allocated size envelopes then arranged these within the maximum airline carry-on sizes. We then mapped the processes that those users go through. Including packing, carrying, moving through customs, onboard access to items, charging electronics, accessing equipment vs clothing and more. Once insights were gained we could determine the user needs to address and order these into priority based on interviews. These insights and needs allowed us to assess and iterate mock-ups through roleplay, and efficiently determine the best features. We produced a manufacture handover pack for each of the items and worked closely with the selected vendor to fine-tune the details of the final product.
A family of luggage minimally styled to appeal to Bisley’s target market and business traveller and adhering to Bisley’s clean brand guidelines. Some key insights led to delighting and convenient integrated features. Easy access charging point for seamless access to your power bank whilst on the move. An easy access fluids bag to reduce time and anxiety at customs gates. Robust wipe-clean bases extend the lifespan of the bags and add uniformity to the line. Double shear axels provide a smooth roll and are resistant to warping over time. A custom rain cover offers a smart added layer of protection for precious belongings. Product samples have been well received by focus groups and batches are due to go into production in late 2019.
