Industrial Product Design Engineer

We are a team of Industrial Design Engineers that help companies take their ideas from design, through manufacture and into production. Although we do work for well established businesses, most of our work is for investor backed businesses with a route to market for their innovative idea. Our job is to ensure that we come up with the best product solution that delights their end customer and is aligned with their business needs. We then do the heavy lifting of development through manufacture and into production.

We wish to expand our team and are looking for a well-rounded, down to earth industrial designer. Ideally with 2-3+ years’ experience in product design consultancy, or industry delivering a variety of product solutions.

You will need to approach every project as if you were the customer, take as much enjoyment in executing the working parts as the overall aesthetic and be able to communicate to both clients and manufacturers using your excellent visual design skills, 3d cad (solid works) and engaging personality. In return they will thank you for your attention to detail, your forward thinking of potential design challenges and your clear communication.

Prior management of staff or of training others is of benefit but not essential, but you must have a passion to share ideas & skills to achieve a joint goal. Embracing teamwork and delegating responsibilities where necessary.

Our clients often rely on us getting things through manufacture and onto the production line, so a good wide knowledge in manufacturing materials and processes is key. We don’t just do manufacturing hand over packs. We work with our manufacturers from stage 1 of concept onward. You therefor will need to identify suitable manufacturing partners, conduct sourcing components, and negotiate costs to help discern one solution from another and produce feasible design solutions.

If you are after an agency role with designer offices and free soy lattes in the foyer, don’t apply for this role. Our studios are full of working prototypes, rigs and sketches. Most of the time you will want to work from the studio because you will want to be part of the team, but we know that some days you may be more productive working remotely, which we support.

The package is negotiable. We are a certified B Corporation and as such we will go to great lengths to ensure that you are happy working as part of our team, so you can then concentrate on being the best designer you can be.

Essential skills

  • able to present innovative, user focused concepts clearly and simply.
  • Understand and get involved with model making. Sometimes in our remote workshops, at your desk or with our prototype partners.
  • Really confident in 3D Cad- ideally solid works. We don’t want designers limited by their skills of using the tools of the trade.
  • Working with (global) prototype partners to deliver best solution.
  • Excellent presentation skills.
  • Efficient and effective client and project management

Essential software:

  • Adobe CC
  • Solidworks
  • Rendering software
  • Microsoft office

Additional (nice to have) skills:

  • Gannt Pro
  • Video editing
  • Render Animation
  • Arduino and RPi
  • Photography
  • Marketing Communication & Social media Management

Location

Our base is <1 hour south of Central London, a 10 minute walk from Haslemere (GU27) railway station. We are also able to accommodate candidates wishing to work from Stokes Croft Bristol where we have workspaces.
