Developing the concept

This is where we turn your refined concept into a functionally tested and costed, production-ready design. We’ll advise you on the most suitable approach for your product and ensure that it’s technically feasible, suggesting adjustments to the design where necessary. After that we can take you all the way through to production even managing the production and shipping of your product if you wish.

Engineer

Every aspect of the design, every screw, bolt and washer, every material and every manufacturing process must be chosen and detailed in the engineering stage. Technical drawings are expanded, and we often make a final works-like/looks-like prototype before handover to the manufacturer so they have something physical as a benchmark. Our attention to detail here has often saved clients’ money and heartache in the long run. For mechanically complicated projects we work with our team of engineers and specialists to check that every part will perform long-term as we have specified. For projects with bespoke electronics, we team up with a group of electrical engineers and programmers who we have successfully collaborated with for years on several projects.

Manufacture

When you’re looking to manufacture a product, choosing the right manufacturer as early as possible can smooth the development process, reducing time, risk and cost. We’ll help you make an informed choice of manufacturer, selecting one that can offer a cost-effective service, with acceptable lead-times and payment terms. We have relationships with manufacturers in the UK, mainland Europe and China. Our manufacturing partners are an integral part of our wider team. We meet with them regularly and much of their advice and experience is integrated into our design process. We will work with your chosen manufacturer to finalise the engineering of the design to match their capabilities and specifications.

Production

We are involved in the production for the majority of the products we design. Taking the product through from concept through to a works-like/ looks-like engineered pre-production prototype is phase 1. Phase 2, is taking the project through production. This may involve establishing and overseeing the production process from beginning to end, closely monitoring the output for quality, consistency and punctuality and re-negotiating contractual terms if necessary. Our core team spend much of their time with our manufacturing partners, in the UK, EU and Asia. As we are often responsible for the production of our clients’ products and have taken many of our own concepts through production to market, every product is considered very carefully at every stage in the development process. With the preferred manufacturer on board we can help you weigh up the production options to ensure you receive the best value possible.

Taking product to market

We have been privileged enough to be involved in the strategy for taking product to market for clients from large multinationals through to start ups. We have helped many inventors who attended the British Library workshop we run to turn their idea into a business. It is one of the most rewarding aspects of our work. From the Library workshop alone, we have helped Spencer have all 4 Dragons in the Den compete for his Teg stove, Chloe secure a distributor for her lapbaby product, and this year we saw Simon launch his foiling Trimaran at The London Boat Show to much acclaim. We have licensed dozens of our own ideas to companies as well as currently running international distribution for our products Bob and Colandish. Stefan is often asked run workshops for companies to help them create more innovative concepts that are commercially viable.
