The brief

Chloe is a delightful client of ours who first came to a workshop we run at the British Library Business and IP centre. She has a very dynamic job and had just had a baby, so she was juggling a lot in her life, the problem she wanted to overcome was, “how can I keep my baby on my lap, but retain use of both of my hands?” She had an idea and mocked it up as a rough rig and asked us what we thought.

The bang

We loved the idea and immediately started work on how to make such a product safe, communicate well off pack, and be on product cost target. One of our fears was safety, so we worked with a test house from very early on in the development process. The solution wrapped around parents (of variable sizes) , and allowed their babies (also of variable sizes) to be held securely on their laps. A roll out waterproof blanket could be deployed to help protect the parents from their loved ones grubby hands or spills.

The result

We helped deliver the product, the brand, the IP and the web site and we are delighted that when Lapbaby was launched it received praise from review sites such as madeformums.com and kidly.co.uk. This led to our client securing a distributor. Lapbaby is a huge success, selling online through several retailers including Amazon where it has 87% 5 star reviews
