ARCHITECTURAL FIRE BIN FOR PUBLIC PLACES
NEW PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT AND MANUFACTURE

THE BRIEF

To design a stylish, architectural waste bin, that seals to prevent waste from catching fire. For use in public areas. The bin must be flexible enough to allow for different volumes of waste, and be able to split into thirds.

PRODUCT: Fire Bin
CLIENT: British Bins

THE CHALLENGE

The client loved our concept sketches with the curved edges. The challenge was keeping the look of the design through engineering and production. We also needed to make the bin easy to use and empty, and all doors and lids had to self-close but not with enough force to harm the user.

THE BANG

The top lid will always close slowly as we used dampeners, but to hold it open past the vertical we used the inner lid to pivot back and hold it. By spending considerable time moving the pivot points about we could make the lid stay up and in the same action tilt the bin forward to be emptied.

THE RESULT

The bin is now on its way to production after gaining interest from specifiers and architects.
